His Excellency Dr. William Samoei Ruto, CGH, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, assented to the Persons with Disabilities Bill 2023, into law.
This new legislation marks a significant gain for the disability community, and the Council celebrates this achievement.
The assent to this law is a testament to the tireless advocacy and unwavering determination of persons with disabilities, their families, and disability rights organizations across Kenya. It signifies a commitment to building a more equitable and inclusive Kenya where everyone can live independently.
The Council is grateful to His Excellency the President. We also wish to thank the members of the National Assembly and the Senate, development partners, organizations of persons with disabilities, and all other stakeholders who contributed to the realization of this legislation.
Going forward, the Council is committed to working towards the full implementation of this law and to continue championing the rights and inclusion of persons with disabilities in Kenya.
