The NCPWD Head Office in conjunction with the Embu Disability Services Office planned and participated in the Eastern Kenya (Embu) ASK show. The event
brought together four groups of persons with various disabilities; the groups included St. Monica’s School for the Mentally handicapped, Runyenjes Union of
the Blind, Lighthouse Diversified Industries Ltd and the Deaf Empowerment Society of Kenya (DESK).
The groups had various products to exhibit including beadwork, dressmaking, soap making, knitting sweaters, carpentry amongst others. The school also made
profits by selling some freshly made popcorns by the students. The Council also had a table where they exhibited the services and various assistive devices and
products for persons with disabilities.
The 3-day event saw around 200 members of the public visit the NCPWD stand making inquiries on various issue surrounding disability, services offered, assistive
devices amongst others.
The Eastern Kenya (Embu) show was established in 1968 at the Embu Stadium. In 1995, the show was relocated from the town centre to Njukiri showground which
