Legal Advisory Services
The Legal Service Department is an in-house service providing unit of the NCPWD which offers professional legal services to Persons with Disabilities, relevant Government Ministries and Departments, stakeholders, and the general public for connected purposes. It aims at ensuring that the Council delivers on its statutory mandate while complying with all its legislative requirements. The department serves a number of PWDs and the general public on a walk-in-walk-out basis to protect and promote the interest of PWDs.
Its core mandates include;
- Implementing and monitoring the application of and compliance with the Constitution of Kenya 2010, United Nations Convention on the Rights for Persons with Disabilities, Persons with Disabilities Act No. 14 of 2003, Policies on Disabilities and other national, regional and international treaties for the benefit of Persons with Disabilities.
- Providing effective and efficient Legal Advisory Services to the Council to enable it to deliver on its mandate within the relevant Legal Framework.
- Conduct and or Commission such Legal Research as may be necessary to ensure Rights and Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities and achieve equalization of opportunities for Persons with Disabilities in line with the legislative framework.
