Antoine Gliksohn, the Executive Director of the Global Albinism Alliance, paid a courtesy call to the National Council for Persons with Disabilities to engage in high-level discussions aimed at identifying strategic ways to advance and protect the rights of persons with albinism. The meeting focused heavily on the critical need for promoting social inclusion and ensuring that individuals with albinism are actively recognized and valued at every level of society. Central to these deliberations was a shared priority to improve data collection and statistical frameworks within Kenya. Both leaders strongly emphasized that establishing a centralized database is an urgent necessity to better streamline operations and accurately target the provision of essential services to those who need them most.
In response to these strategic priorities, the Council’s Executive Director, Dr. Michael Munene, welcomed the initiative and promised to forge a close, enduring collaboration with the Alliance. Dr. Munene noted that benchmarking local initiatives against global best practices will serve as a key catalyst for significantly enhancing the welfare, safety, and overall well-being of persons with albinism across the country. This milestone meeting underscores a unified commitment to bridging data gaps, dismantling systemic barriers, and fostering a truly inclusive society through international partnership.
