Mentoring Programme for Persons with Disabilities

Eligibility Criteria

Please ensure you meet all the following criteria before applying:
1. Volunteer Commitment: Are you willing to volunteer your time and energy to mentor a person with a disability on a consistent basis? (Yes/No)
2. Passion for Inclusion: Do you have a special interest in mentoring learners with disabilities? (Yes/No)
3. Professional Expertise: Do you have a minimum of two years of professional experience in your chosen field? (Yes/No)
4. Communication Skills: Do you possess excellent communication skills, including active listening and clear articulation? (Yes/No)
5. Disability Awareness: Do you have a basic understanding of disability issues and sensitivity towards creating an inclusive environment? (Yes/No)
6. Academic Requirement (if applicable): For mentors affiliated with tertiary institutions, are you currently in your second year of study or beyond? (Yes/No) (Applicable to university/college mentors only)
7. Mentoring Experience (Optional): Have you previously participated in a mentoring program (either as a mentor or mentee)? Please provide details if applicable. (Yes/No)

Roles and Responsibilities

As a mentor in this program, you will be expected to:
1. Empowerment: Guide and support your mentee in identifying and pursuing academic and social opportunities.
2. Career Guidance: Assist your mentee in navigating career development, including exploring options and setting goals.
3. Informed Decisions: Provide support and guidance as your mentee makes decisions throughout their academic and professional journey.
4. Exposure and Exploration: Connect your mentee with new experiences and resources that can foster their growth and development.
5. Academic Progress: Offer advice and support to enable your mentee to achieve academic success.
6. Building Confidence: Help your mentee develop positive self-esteem and a strong sense of self-worth.
7. Resource Sharing: Provide your mentee with access to credible resources related to mentorship, career guidance, and psychosocial development.
8. Active Listening: Practice effective communication skills by actively listening to your mentee and focusing on their needs.
9. Motivation and Inspiration: Share your own experiences, both successes and challenges, to inspire and motivate your mentee.
10. Focused Sessions: Ensure dedicated time for uninterrupted mentoring sessions to maximize the benefit for your mentee.
