Council Signed An MOU with Kenya Institute of Special Education.

The Executive Director Harun Hassan and the Director of the Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE) Dr. Norman Kiogora signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the two institutions.
The two institutions have partnered together for a Kenya Sign Language Program, in which 350 public workers offering essential services including police officers, nurses, front-office personnel health and social workers, will undergo a six-month training.
The trainings, which started this month, will include detailed theory and practical sessions, offered in eight centres across the country.
The eight centres which KISE will conduct its training are: Voi, Machakos, Kitale, Kisii, Nyeri, Isiolo, Nairobi and Kericho.
Mr. Hassan channeled to Dr. Kiogora the Council’s recommendations for further improvements in the training programme to ensure graduates are fully equipped with the necessary skills. Dr. Kiogora committed to ensuring high quality training for the trainees.
Ensuring availability of sign language interpretation services in the public sector is key to mainstreaming disability and enhancing service delivery to persons with disabilities – including those with hearing impairments.
