President Ruto Host Deaf Community Representatives and the National Council for Persons with Disabilities

President William Ruto has reaffirmed Government’s commitment to realize disability inclusion in all spheres of Kenyan life.

The President said this as he hosted representatives from the Deaf Community and the National Council for Persons with Disabilities at State House Nairobi, ahead of the International Week of Deaf People which commences on 18th September 2023 – themed ”𝐴 π‘Šπ‘œπ‘Ÿπ‘™π‘‘ π‘€β„Žπ‘’π‘Ÿπ‘’ π·π‘’π‘Žπ‘“ π‘ƒπ‘’π‘œπ‘π‘™π‘’ πΈπ‘£π‘’π‘Ÿπ‘¦π‘€β„Žπ‘’π‘Ÿπ‘’ πΆπ‘Žπ‘› 𝑆𝑖𝑔𝑛 π΄π‘›π‘¦π‘€β„Žπ‘’π‘Ÿπ‘’β€.
Principal Secretary – State Department for Social Protection and Senior Citizen Affairs Mr. Joseph Motari called for additional financial resources to enable the Council serve more persons with disabilities through its programmes including those with hearing impairments.
Executive Director Harun Hassan drew attention to the lack of updated subsidiary laws to fully realize the spirit of inclusion as enshrined in the Constitution, asking for support to ensure the disability law is reviewed to conform with the law of the land.

Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service Mr. Felix Koskei pledged to act upon issues raised including availing more employment opportunities to persons with disabilities in the public service.
